Imola will have the Formula 1 Grand Prix until 2025: the contract with Liberty Media has been extended for three years, so Italy will be able to count on two races on the calendar, given that the appointment at Enzo and Dino Ferrari will go to deadline just like the Italian GP in Monza.
Returning to the world championship calendar in 2020 to replace one of the canceled races for COVID-19, Imola has found a second life in the world of Formula 1, even if it had to compete in two editions behind closed doors. Finally this year it seems that the conditions are in place for a reopening of the stands to the public, so that a new cycle can begin for the Emilian race that has received so many positive feedbacks from professionals and drivers.
Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of ACI Italia, has signed an agreement with F1 to give continuity to the agar on the banks of the Santerno: “I am very satisfied with the agreement reached with Liberty Media – he told the agencies, before the release of the press release F1 – It was a complicated contract, because it was made by us who are a public body with a private body like Formula 1. But the important thing is that we managed to confirm the GP in Imola until 2025 ”.
“We will still have two Formula 1 races in Italy for the next few years. It was a great team effort. We have managed to create a great group and I must say thanks to the Government and the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Infrastructure and to the Emilia-Romagna Region “.
According to rumors, the economic agreement is $ 25 million on an annual basis, with an adjustment in favor of Liberty Mid season by season, while the amount required for the closed-door race did not exceed $ 10 million.
This is an onerous contract that aligns with the lowest figures required by the F1 promoter, but with the support that comes from the Government and the Emilia Romagna Region, Imola is guaranteed a place in the sun until 2025.
