Red Bull’s involvement in F1 and motorsports in general is the fruit of Dieter Mateschitz’s personal passion and after his passing last Saturday, observers inevitably began to wonder what would happen now given the huge investments required.
Christian Horner, questioned about the affair immediately after winning the Constructors’ title in Austin, underlined how Mateschitz had already laid a solid foundation to guarantee the future of both the Red Bull Racing team and AlphaTauri.
Horner then pointed out that Mateschitz’s support for the Red Bull Powertrains project, which is seeing the Milton Keynes team building an entirely new power unit in light of the 2026 regulations, is a clear sign of its long-term vision.
“The future is set,” Horner said when asked if there would be any changes after Mateschitz’s death. “He has set up a very solid foundation for the future. Red Bull will become a power unit manufacturer from 2026. This was the missing piece of our puzzle and he had the vision to allow this to happen.”
“Just like we did with the chassis, we will bring the same spirit, his spirit, to the future company that will make the engines.”

Horner continued: “Mateschitz defined this vision and was involved until last week. He approved the plan for Red Bull Powertrains to set the long-term future of the team.”
“The commitment he has shown in this respect, and what has enabled us to create our team in Milton Keynes, puts Red Bull Racing in a very strong position for many, many years to come.”
Asked if Max Verstappen’s conquest of the second world championship would suggest that F1 has entered a period of domination by Red Bull, Horner was cautious.
“You can’t make predictions like that,” he said. “I mean, we find ourselves fighting with very tough rivals. This year we have had a wonderful season, we have beaten all our records in terms of victories and doubles and we still have three races to go.”
“We have very, very competitive competitors and I am sure they will come back even stronger next year.”
