Formula 1 took a week off to make room for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which Ferrari achieved a sensational encore, with the success of the 499P #50, driven by Antonio Fuoco, Nicklas Nielsen and Miguel Molina .
Who knows, perhaps this triumph may also be a good omen for the SF-24s, which in Barcelona will have to put behind them a Canadian Grand Prix that was disappointing to say the least. After being eliminated in Q2, in fact, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were both forced to retire. And there hasn’t been a double KO since the Azerbaijan GP last year. But regardless of this, the Reds have never been competitive in Montreal and this is what we must avoid repeating in Spain.
Also because on the circuit named after Gilles Villeneuve we had confirmation that Formula 1 is experiencing a particularly interesting moment: it is true that Max Verstappen won, but Red Bull is no longer alone in command, because if he had not been damaged by Safety Car, it would probably have been Lando Norris who would have climbed to the top step of the podium, with a McLaren that now seems to all intents and purposes to be the second force.
And in Canada Mercedes also joined the party, with George Russell taking pole position and then the lowest step of the podium. The W15s were probably favored by the weather, which repeatedly brought rain to Montreal, forcing everyone to raise the settings of their cars. This too is something that will therefore have to be re-evaluated in Catalonia, on a track that usually tends to highlight the cars’ weak points.
