The Board of Stewards of the Monaco Grand Prix rejected the complaint presented by Ferrari at the end of the race held today. The Scuderia wanted to clarify Max Verstappen’s exit from the pits after his second pit stop, claiming that the Dutchman touched the solid yellow line that delimits the acceleration run after the Saint Devote corner.
The Commissioners accepted Ferrari’s complaint, analyzing what happened on lap 23 aware of having sanctioned a similar episode for Yuki Tsunoda in last year’s Austrian Grand Prix.
The verdict issued by the FIA reports that “All the summoned parties agreed that the number 1 car had part of the front and rear left side tires on one side of the yellow line. All the parties summoned agreed that most of the front and rear left tires remained on the yellow line ”.
The decision not to sanction Verstappen was motivated by article 5c of Appendix L of the Sporting Regulations which states that when exiting the pits a car “must not cross” the line.
“In this case – says the verdict – the car did not ‘cross’ the line, to do so it should have had a full wheel to the left of the yellow line”.
A surprise verdict, the one issued on the evening of Monte Carlo, which represents an important change in what had so far been the criteria for judging the overcoming of the solid line.
