The long-awaited news related to the new parts of Charles Leclerc’s power unit has finally arrived. Ferrari has decided to sacrifice the race weekend in Montreal, home of the Canadian Grand Prix, to unmark a new and complete power unit.
In fact, Leclerc unmarked a complete and totally new power unit during Free Practice 3 of the Canadian Grand Prix. It is about the heat engine – the fourth of the season – MGU-H, MGU-K, turbo, exhaust system and also the ECU.
In this regard, the replacement of the control unit, the third of the Leclerc season after just 9 races out of the 22 scheduled, had already been announced on the night between Friday and Saturday, a few minutes after the end of the second free practice session.
In this way Leclerc will be forced to start from the last position in the race scheduled for 20:00 tomorrow. If, on the other hand, Ferrari had limited itself to replacing the control unit, Leclerc would have had to serve 10 penalty positions on the grid.
Considering the nature of the track, where it is very easy to overtake if you have a performance car like the F1-75, the choice of Ferrari is more than obvious.
But that’s not all, because the Prancing Horse team didn’t just introduce a brand new power unit on the Leclerc Red, but also fitted the third heat engine of the season on Carlos Sainz Jr.’s Ferrari.
The third engine, the last available, also enters the Spaniard’s rotation. We remind you that if a fourth engine is introduced, Sainz will also be penalized. Considering that the third unit has been inserted today, it is almost certain that the Madrid-born will also be forced to face a penalty during the remaining races.
