Ferrari has fitted a new power unit on both Cavallino single-seaters. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz mounted the second engine of the season of the four granted to each driver for the 24 GPs: the unit was introduced in Miami before the only free practice session and the agitation on the wall is also understandable of the Cavallino when the Monegasque had ended up spinning near the tunnel and was unable to restart after overheating the clutch and the power unit.
The order via radio was to turn off the engine to avoid overheating the power unit which was still at zero kilometres. Ferrari demonstrated good reliability of the 066/12 considering the fact that engine 1 took part in five GPs and a sprint race plus all the free practice sessions.
Sauber, among Maranello’s customer teams, also replaced the Ferrari engine on the C44s of Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhoe. Two teams supplied by Mercedes also took advantage of the sixth test of the season to equip themselves with second units: we are talking about McLaren and Aston Martin.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have a fresh MCL38 in every sense as they have also enjoyed important updates, not just aerodynamic. Like everyone else on the list published by the FIA, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have fitted a new internal combustion engine, turbo, MGU-K and MGU-H as well as a set of exhausts.
