F1 | Elkann: “Hamilton is not coming to Ferrari to enjoy his retirement”

John Elkann visited Casa Italia yesterday to experience the atmosphere of the Paris Olympics. This was a good opportunity to also talk about his favorite teams, Juventus and of course Ferrari.

The president of the Prancing Horse focused especially on the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in Maranello next season, comparing him to the legends of the sport who have had a very long career, such as Novak Djokovic, who a few days ago took the gold in tennis. But not only that, because he assured that if the British player has accepted this new challenge it is because he is convinced that he can still win his eighth world crown.

“Hamilton and Ferrari have found each other, he comes to us to win and with him we become stronger in anticipating the challenges of the future. We are talking about a great athlete who is very motivated to become world champion for the eighth time, as the last races have shown,” Elkann said in a statement reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He certainly doesn’t come to Ferrari to enjoy his retirement, he wants to play it out. After all, just look at the greats of the last decade: Djokovic, Federer, Hamilton, Ronaldo, Messi, what do they have in common? Longevity. They have overcome physical limitations with enormous willpower,” he added.

Finally, he also spoke about the current season, underlining the great balance that Formula 1 has found, giving spectacular races with always unpredictable results, with a Ferrari that obviously wants to be in the game.

“This year in Formula 1 there is real competition, there are four teams that are very close to each other and this makes everything much more interesting. Red Bull started well, then Ferrari, McLaren, now Mercedes: it is a championship that is finally open and with some great drivers”.

“What matters is that you lap to your full potential. Those with more experience, like Hamilton or Alonso, are more consistent. And this can make the difference,” he concluded.
