Montreal qualifying, Ferrari disaster
There Ferrari who was so hoping for the Montreal event has yet to be seen. And you won’t even be seen in Q3.
Remarkably, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have been eliminated from the fight for pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix: the two will start 11th and 12th respectively tomorrow. Not since the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix have both Maranello cars failed to qualify for a Q3.
The SF-24 never gave the impression of having the pace in the three free practice sessions, but the fans’ hope was that the variable weather conditions had mixed the cards and hidden the true values on the field. This was not the case.
Of course, the strategy on the Maranello wall, which sent Leclerc and Sainz onto the track in the decisive phases of Q2 with used soft tyres, will cause discussion. Knowing that rain would most likely arrive in Q3, it might have made sense to use all the new soft tires, especially on a track where it is very easy to get caught up in a DRS train. Tomorrow the Scuderia will count on a GP full of unexpected events to try to get back on track.
