It is well known that there is bad blood between Zak Brown and Christian Horner. During the stormy weekend of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the McLaren CEO was among the firmest in asking the Formula 1 governance for a position on the Horner case, and even yesterday in Miami he didn’t miss an opportunity to throw a few barbs using a question on the Red divorce Bull Newey.
“I’m surprised? Six months I would have been, yes. I know Adrian quite well and he is a person of great integrity – he attacked Brown – given what has happened since the beginning of the year (alluding to the Horner case) I wasn’t surprised by his departure”.
Then Brown went on to point to Newey’s departure as the first act of a domino effect that will hit Red Bull. “It seems like a slightly destabilizing moment for them, probably (Newey’s) is just the first piece that will trigger a domino effect. My hypothesis seems to be supported by the CVs I see going around…”.

Regarding the possibility of McLaren’s interest in Newey (rumor spread on Thursday in the Miami paddock) Brown was colder, confirming total trust in the technical staff.
“We all know Adrian’s CV – concluded Brown – I don’t think I’m saying anything new by underlining that Adrian is capable of being an added value for any racing team. But I am happy with the growth path we are pursuing in McLaren, I can add a ‘never say never’, but I believe that, in terms of technical leadership, we are at an excellent level, the way in which Andrea Stella manages the team is excellent. We have a plan and we keep our heads down.”
