At Interlagos the Finn of Mercedes wins the race that assigns the pole of the GP in front of the Dutch of Red Bull and the Ferrari of Sainz that precedes Perez. The Englishman, relegated due to the irregular mobile wing, comes back but loses another 2 points from Max
Valtteri Bottas won the third Sprint Race in F1 history in Brazil. On the 24 laps of Interlagos the Finn of Mercedes preceded the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. Fourth Sergio Perez. Lewis Hamilton, who started last due to a disqualification for an irregular mobile wing, has recovered up to 5th place.
The start
–
The start was very exciting, with Bottas and Sainz very fast on the red tire to pass Verstappen, who was a bit planted and pulled out of the red in turn 4. Max took 4 laps to get back into the rhythm and on the straight he walked Carlos’s SF21, launching into Bottas’ attack. Behind Hamilton he immediately recovered 4 positions and in 5 laps he quickly reached 12th position. Also noteworthy is the accident between the two Alfa Romeos in turn 1, with Kimi Raikkonen who closed and touched Antonio Giovinazzi’s tires and spun, ending up in a spin.
Ovation for super Lewis
–
Hamilton, penalized for the irregular moving wing, was the protagonist of this 24-lap mini-race, giving life to a generous and frightening comeback, climbing up to 5th place. For the Englishman a weekend with two mountains to climb, given that before the disqualification for the Drs remedied today, he already had 5 penalty positions to be served for the change of power unit. In the end he will start 10th, but the recovery was still impressive. In 24 laps the world champion jumped like pins Giovinazzi, Alonso, Ricciardo, Vettel, Ocon, Gasly, Leclerc and Lando Norris respectively on the last lap. The Brazilian public eventually gave him a big and well-deserved ovation.
Valtteri smiles
–
In front, however, Bottas smiles, who takes pole and three points from the winner. The choice to start with a soft red tire paid off, because it allowed the Finn to burn at the start Verstappen, who had medium tires. And the expected drop of the softer compound did not exist, with Mercedes able to defend itself against Red Bull, which came very close but never found the moment and the point for the attack. For Max, however, the risk didn’t make much sense today: second place allowed him to gain another 2 points over Hamilton and this is certainly enough. Tomorrow the Dutchman will start from the front row and will certainly try to attack in the race.
Great Sainz
–
The Ferrari of Carlos Sainz was very good, author of an excellent Sprint Race which ended in third place ahead of Perez. Sixth behind Hamilton Norris, who got the better of Charles Leclerc’s second Ferrari. Eighth Pierre Gasly ahead of Esteban Ocon and Sebastian Vettel. Thirteenth our Antonio Giovinazzi. Tomorrow the GP kicks off at 18 Italian.
