The Alpine F1 team has announced that it has terminated its collaboration with Marcin Budkowski. The 45-year-old Polish engineer joined Renault (later renamed Alpine last year) in 2017, a step that raised great controversy in the paddock as Budkowski came directly from the FIA, where he had held the position of head of the technical department of Formula 1, that is a position that had allowed him to know the secrets of the developments of the various teams.
In his four years spent at the Enstone headquarters, Budkowski has come to cover the role of Executive Director, but already in the final phase of last season, rumors had leaked about a possible restructuring at the top of the team, and today’s announcement confirms what was expected. .
Alpine confirmed that managing the team will temporarily be taken over by managing director Laurent Rossi, to allow everyone to concentrate on preparing for next season.
Rossi’s temporary position seems to be the confirmation of another indiscretion that ran in the Abu Dhabi paddock a month ago, namely the imminent passage to the Alpine of Otmar Szafnauer, who a few days ago officially terminated his contract with the Aston Martin.
Net of the constraints linked to gardening, the impression is that his move to the Alpine will soon be announced, thus closing the circle.
