AlphaTauri is ready to face the 2022 Formula 1 pre-season tests which will start tomorrow at Montmelo in Barcelona. However, the AT03 has already tasted the track, having already carried out the first of the two filming days available to each team during this year.
The team based in Faenza completed the first 100 kilometers with the new single-seater on the Marco Simoncelli track in Misano Adriatico. At the wheel of the new creature of the Italian-Austrian team the two drivers took turns: Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda.
We remind you that the test was held with “demo” Pirelli tires, dedicated precisely to this type of event so as not to give the teams advantages in being able to work with the compounds used during the season.

These are the first impressions of Pierre Gasly, who will still be called to drive AlphaTauri in the fight for the top positions in the Constructors: “The new car is really different, and I must say that the first driving sensation was quite good, even if the track it was wet and therefore slippery. I really hope this new generation of cars improves racing, which is what makes them exciting for all of us drivers. This is a brand new car, with a lot to discover. So let’s start now in Barcelona , where we will have a lot of work to do to maximize the six days of testing available to us before arriving at the first race in Bahrain. “
“As mentioned, Yuki Tsunoda also had the opportunity to test the AT03 before the pre-season tests in Barcelona. Here are his considerations after the first kilometers with the new car:” In a day of shooting, the kilometers in the car are a lot limited, but from what I’ve found so far, I feel positive about the AT03. Now I want to use the next few days of testing to build my confidence in this new car, learn as much as possible and give the engineers my best possible feedback, to be ready for the start of the season with the race in Bahrain. “
Jody Egginton, technical director of Scuderia AlphaTauri commented: “I think it is fair to say that the technical changes made for this upcoming season are the biggest facts in Formula 1 in a long time, so there is a big difference this year. first, it’s good to see the car in operation and it’s good to see all the hard work that comes together in that first run, but that’s just the first step on a long journey to understanding the car and continuing to develop it. constant optimization, using what we have learned from previous cars and re-evaluating everything to get the best possible package in view of the pre-season tests and then the first race “.

Franz Tost, Team Principal of Scuderia AlphaTauri said: “The first impression of the AT03 is very positive. We hope that the battles on the track are much closer, for Formula 1 – as for any type of sport – it is very important that many competitors are able to win races and I think F1 is heading in the right direction with the new regulations and the cost cap. I think we have a promising package, but now we have to wait and see how we compare once all the cars go down on track in pre-season tests “.
