The marriage between EA Sports And Codemasters seems to have partly benefited the official title dedicated to the Formula 1 world championship, however the life of the newborn couple does not yet seem like roses and flowers, and we are far from an idyllic perfect automotive product. F1 22which we talk about in this review, has managed to confirm itself as a title with quality and character, confirming the good things done in recent years by the Canadian studio, but once again it seems that that something is missing for the final victory, that trail to exploit to overtake and get on the top step of the podium.
Without team Aiden Jackson
Ever since the brand has seen its “rebirth”, with titles from incredible quality that have then strung together imposing metascores year after year, we have always witnessed a gradual increase in quality, above all because time after time we started from excellent foundations, where there was very little to improve on the actual. Even after the change to publication, with EA Sportss behind, the Codies have “held their botta” and they managed to create a title that was more than up to par, with something different and many new features in tow, albeit with some factors that didn’t really make us cry for a miracle.
Many of the innovations that were present in last year’s title (here our review) were also maintained in F1 22, although others have been rejected – temporarily or permanently, it remains to be seen – and absent in this iteration. The “cutMore important was in fact Braking Pointthe F1 story mode which featured a very promising young driver, making his climb from F2 to F1 to aim for the world championship, between rivalry, challenges and adrenaline, following a bit the model of the mode “Travel” by FIFA.
Its absence could be read in several waysperhaps a search for content and a more in-depth study for a new chapter (perhaps for next year or two, so just a pause), or it was not recognized as a fairly popular mode, and therefore a sort of failed test. The fact remains that in F1 22 it is absent, and that in this review we will analyze all the other factors instead included.
News and confirmations
As already mentioned, the modus operandi remained that of start from solid foundations, and file working to enhance and add content. In this iteration EA wanted to give a lot of importance to the multiple components social of the game, with a fairly rich section dedicated to customization (like the look of our pilot, the his home in F1 Lifeand his cars), the room of the trophies obtained that will be shown in the window, and all the features dedicated to visitors in F1 Life, who will browse in your home (and we in theirs).
EA’s “mambassa” style continues with other features, such as the presence of supercarthe soundtrack (selectable between the original and the non-free-copyright one, which is also available on Spotify), and the challenges Pirelli Hot Lap, which will make us sit driving high-performance road cars. Not everything seems so “indispensable”, but they are side additions that certainly do not disfigure.
The most welcome and full-bodied introductions of the previous iteration have instead been confirmed, first of all the multiplayer component locally, with the entire career mode playable in split screen (with the possibility this time to choose what kind of budget to start from! Ed.), as well as the individual grands prix, the weekly events, and everything related to the season in real time.
As for the practical guide, once again EA and Codemasters want to set themselves bulwarks ofaccessibility, with numerous aids that can be activated and deactivated to adapt the difficulty of the game to your skills and driving style, all with an easy-to-understand menu where to set your preferences. During our tests for the F1 22 review we analyzed the behavior of the game both by exploiting a padboth a steering wheel with pedal G923, and despite the experience with the DualSense of PlayStation 5 proved to be worthy of expectations (also considering the risk given by new regulationsprimarily for tires), the immersion of the game with a steering wheel in your hands is unparalleledalthough it will definitely take you more than a few hours to get used to it.
Still to be filed
The technical sector is rather swinging: while we play in fact it is very evident the alternation of excellent features (such as the road performance of the single-seaters, the influence of heat on the tires and grip, the implementation of vehicle and fuel management and so on) with other characteristics that a production of this caliber should not contemplate, like graphic bugs embarrassing (and not so rare) even on the menus.
Everything, as it is built, plays a lot in favor of the realism (when we then played with the steering wheel and the cockpit view, the immersion was very powerful ed.), and it is therefore a shame to note that the pfs are not always granite and some small drops go to dampen the enthusiasm. We hope that a good dose of updates will soon patch up the most serious situations.
The pilots’ artificial intelligence stands in the middle: it is an I.A adaptive, which based on the experience and performance of the pilot tends to adapt. Although the idea is very suggestive and in certain situations it works discreetly, even in this case there is a need to take a few more steps forward. Let me be clear, in some situations the behavior of the pilots results likely and realistic, but in some cases it seems almost out of phase, incoherent.

8Total Score
Now in the second year of the brand new life of the new series of video games dedicated to Formula 1 with the tag team of Codemasters and EA, we can say that for every step forward taken, there is still something that goes back and out of place. Let’s be clear, it is a matter of nitpicking, given that the quality of the official racing game of the World Championship is at very high levels, however we are still a long way from the definitive leap in quality, especially as regards the technical “side” side. . The guide is splendid, but perhaps it would have been appropriate to give less weight to the social components and squeeze more on some aspects of the technical sector, undermined at launch by some annoying bugs and some frame drops.
