When the world was silent under the Covid-19 pandemic, a man decided to launch his own car company: Ben Scott-Guedes, former engineer Ferrari, McLaren And Caparo in fact, he created his own private company from scratch, the Fering, through which he produced his extreme off-road vehicle Pioneer.
Fering Pioneer, the technical characteristics of the electric off-road vehicle
The first prototype of the Fering Pioneer, it’s a off road essential and light, hybrid, robust and very resistant. The frame has an aluminum structure which combined with the i body fabric panels allow the weight to settle at 1.5 tons (15,000 kg).
Off-road features and performance
The characteristics of the Pioneer data sheet are interesting: it reaches a top speed of 125 km / h, can climb slopes of up to 60%, tilt up to 50 ° and sink in water up to 1.4 meters. Above all, it shows a remarkable pair of 600 Nm which allows it to be an efficient off-road vehicle with similar values in much heavier off-road vehicles, such as the Land Rover or Toyota. This off-roader can tackle all types of terrain thanks to the 22.5-inch large diameter wheels.
Fering Pioneer, what engine is fitted?
To move the Fering Pioneer they think about it well two electric motors positioned on the front wheels. A power generator is powered by an 800cc 3-cylinder engine powered by biodiesel and allows recharge the batteries and move the car forward by filling up with watts. This range extender system would allow, under optimal conditions and using the larger optional fuel tank, non-stop travel up to 7,000 kilometers, at least according to the company. The battery dimensions are limited (and therefore do not weigh down the vehicle) and allow an autonomy of about 80 km without recharging.
The Pioneer uses a special traction battery LTO (Lithium Titanate Oxide) characterized by a very high discharge and recharge speed but with a very low energy density compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries.
A particular noteworthy is that if the route does not require traveling 7,000 km, part of the reservoir can be used to store water and the electricity produced by the generator can be used to power a camp or a bivouac.
When will it go on sale?
The prototype is already in the hands of customers for testing and testing, the production is expected to start before summer 2022 and the first deliveries in the second half with a price of around 180,000 euros and a production capacity of 150 and 200 vehicles per year.
