Specifically, the fight for victory saw the two Americans from Ganassi Racing on the starting grid Price and Leducalong with Kristofferson and Ahlin-Kottulinsky and the couple Loeb-Gutierrez, Sainz-Sanz, and Gilmour-Foust. The latter, however, do not celebrate McLaren’s absolute debut in the series in the best possible way, with the British author of an accident in the moments immediately following the start which forces Race Direction to interrupt the race with the display of the Red flag. At the resumption of the event, and with the men giving up their steering wheel to their respective teammate in view of the last lap, with the exception of Kristoffersson, the Swede manages to recover in extremis from 3rd position, winning the Desert X Prix and starting from where he left off last season, that is, in first place in the world championship standings.
