The visitor to the café in the Italian pavilion follows the stages of preparing coffee using solar energy, starting with grinding the coffee beans until putting them in the cup, which is prepared in a “mocha pot” and is inspired by the principles of the circular economy.
The unique project, designed by the Italian company Carlo Rati Associati, aims to provide an immersive experience in the world of coffee that passes through each of the stages of its life cycle.
How to prepare
The café relies on the “Solar Mocha” tube, which includes a number of mirrors that follow the movement of the sun to produce heat and is 2.2 meters high. This innovative technology helps reduce energy consumption during the stages of the coffee preparation process, as the water passes through copper tubes containing the coffee, In order to prepare it permanently, and this process takes place in front of the eyes of visitors to the Italian pavilion.
Unique experience
The visitor’s experience of the Italian Pavilion Café does not stop only when drinking coffee and watching the stages of its preparation, as he will see surfaces made of ground and reused coffee beans preserved in “resin molds”, which adorn all the walls of the café.
A number of medium-sized coffee beans have also been placed to grow and rise gradually from the surface of the earth with the passage of the days of the Expo 2020, to be used to prepare the coffee as soon as it is ripe, so that visitors have an opportunity to learn how to grow coffee beans, and the initial stage of the coffee production process.
