The Russian Embassy in Kabul reported that Russian citizens were not injured in the explosion in the capital of Afghanistan.

Responsibility for Saturday’s explosion was claimed by a branch of the Islamic State terrorist group – Velayat Khorasan (a terrorist organization banned in Russia).
On November 12, an explosion occurred in a mosque in the Afghan province of Nangarhar during Friday prayers. At least 12 people were injured, including a local mullah.
On November 10, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that more than 20 terrorist structures are currently operating in Afghanistan. At the same time, he noted, the United States and its allies continue to contribute to the further degradation of the situation through the economic isolation of Afghanistan.
Patrushev called the growing number of refugees from Afghanistan a threat to regional stability. According to him, there are great risks of penetration of terrorist and extremist elements, as well as drug dealers disguised as refugees or Afghans who collaborated with the West into Central Asia and Russia.
The situation in Afghanistan escalated in May 2021 after the start of the withdrawal of American troops who had been in the country since 2001. Members of the Taliban (an organization that is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities) launched an offensive on the country’s major cities and entered Kabul on August 15, announcing the end of the war.
