On Friday, August 19, psychologists of the Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health of Children and Adolescents named after G. E. Sukhareva of the Moscow Health Department Maria Ermakova and Svetlana Zalmanova listed the main signs of a child’s psychological readiness for the new school year.
So, according to Ermakova, this definition means the level of development of the child necessary for the assimilation of the school curriculum in full. To do this, motivational, volitional, communicative, emotional and cognitive skills must be developed. The child should always be interested in learning. If aspiration is absent, it is a signal that something is going wrong.
“Cognitive readiness means the transition to conceptual thinking, the child’s ability to analyze, generalize, classify, compare, think abstractly, as well as act internally and understand cause and effect relationships. <...> When all these components are sufficiently formed in a child, we can talk about his psychological readiness, ”the psychologist said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Svetlana Zalmanova agreed with her and stated that psychological readiness does not arise by itself, but is formed gradually through various games and activities and outdoor activities. It is important at the same time to explain to the child why the school is important and necessary.
On August 3, Anastasia Yekushevskaya, director of the online school for children and teenagers Skysmart, called the five-year-old age of a child the most optimal for starting preparation for school. During this period, children, as a rule, already have a certain intellectual reserve.
On March 1, educational psychologist Natalya Grigorievskaya gave advice on calming and reducing children’s anxiety. According to her, when talking with children, parents should try to remain calm themselves, speak confidently and clearly.
