Experts, university professors and directors of research centers in Iraq confirmed that the participation of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi in the “Jeddah Security and Development” summit will have a great economic return. Political analyst Karrar Rifaat said that Iraq has an opportunity to reap benefits from the summit, given its experience in the “Baghdad Conference” a year ago, as well as the Egypt-Jordan conference, in addition to the mediation role it plays to bring Saudi Arabia and Iran closer together. In statements to Al-Ittihad, Refaat considered that “the summit agenda included two categories of participating countries, the first being the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and the second being Iraq, Egypt and Jordan. Iraq can reap it, whether in terms of politics, economy, energy, investment, and taking advantage of the United States and Europe’s need for alternative energy resources to Russian oil and gas.”
He added: «I think that the Iraqi decision-maker should be aware of the importance of freedom from internal and external pressure, and the optimal investment of conflicting interests in the Middle East, and employing them for the benefit of Iraq politically and economically».
In turn, Mazen Sahib, a political analyst and vice president of the Center for Solutions for Future Studies, said in statements to Al-Ittihad that Baghdad’s participation in the summit is necessary for Iraq’s harmony with its Arab surroundings to achieve great economic benefit.
Dr. Abdul-Karim Al-Wazzan, Dean of the College of Mass Communication at the Islamic American University in the US state of Minnesota, stressed that the significance of the summit stems from an economic aspect in the first place, pointing out that Iraq is now considered the strategic road in the region, which is an “economic and commercial silk road.”
In statements to Al-Ittihad, Al-Wazzan pointed out that the economic and security interests represent a strategic aspect for the Arab Gulf states by maintaining the stability of Iraq, stressing that the strategic summit “economic and security” stems from the social and security interests of Iraq, the Gulf states and the United States.
