Pe Langin and Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandrin art could be called lyrical mechanics, where unexpected poetry is found in the laws of nature. In Galerie Anhava’s kinetic works, dust particles, lightning-fast flashes of light and frictional sounds play a major role. The duo last performed in Anhava in the spring of 2015.

The exhibition space is dominated by a joint work of the artists Untitled / no 7 (2019), which is both a kinetic sculpture and a functional instrument. The nylon threads under the acrylic tubes resembling organ whistles cause the membranes attached to the ends of the tubes to vibrate. As it rotates, the work gives birth to a ghostly natina, reminiscent of a wooden ship sailing in the windy sea.

Swiss Pe Langin (b. 1974) highly polished works focus on movement and light. In the book Random / no 10 (2021) A simple mechanism causes the weight of the weight of the wire to dance like the smoke of a quenched candle that specifically rewinds and unwinds again. LED / no 6 (2021–2022), on the other hand, is a kind of minimalist film starring dust particles deposited on a film.

Greek-born Papalexandri-Alexandri (b. 1974), who now lives in Switzerland and the United States, works mainly in sound art and special instruments. The work Human and Machine / no 5 (2022) in the exhibition makes music on crispbreads. Located in the basement Untitled | no 12 (2022) turns friction into a deep roar that one could imagine rising from the earth’s crust.

Top class the technology behind the works is complex, but for the viewer, the works appear as effortless insights. Some of the charm of the works arises precisely from that special satisfaction when something is perfectly designed.
