The memory of Sepang
Over the past week it had understandably caused quite a stir within the MotoGP microcosm the interview given by Valentino Rossi to the podcast My Babymanaged by his friend and colleague Andrea Migno, in which the Doctor retraced – among other topics – his now infamous rivalry with Marc Marquez and above all the controversial facts of the 2015 season That year the fierce battle – on and off the track – between Rossi and Marquez had a decisive effect on the outcome of the championship, which was then won in the grand finale in Valencia by Jorge Lorenzo at the expense of the #46.
Rossi, in his analysis of what happened in the Sepang GP of that year – with the accident between him and Marquez that led to the crash of the #93 and the penalty for Rossi to serve by starting last in the Valencia race – had also cited the role played by Maio MeregalliYamaha Team Director. According to Rossi Meregalli had been “too soft” on that occasion and had not helped him enough to defend his reasons.
The Naive Doctor
Exclusively on the microphones of FormulaPassion.it Meregalli responded to the nine-time world champion’s comments, reversing the reading and arguing that Rossi had essentially naively fallen into the ‘trap’ set by Marc Marquez. He certainly said what he thinks, each of us has our own way of reacting. In hindsight, if I have to add something, I could say that in the end he fell into Marquez’s trap“, commented the Yamaha manager.
“In those situations for me there are different ways to do things. – continued Meregalli – if you attack in Race Direction I don’t think you can get anything. As I said before, everyone has their own way of doing things. He thought mine was too soft, I can think that in the end he was a little naive and fell into Marquez’s trap”.
