Jonathan Tah is said to be one of Barça’s priorities for the summer of 2025. The Blaugrana want to strengthen their defence and are counting on the arrival of the German international, who will be free of any contract. A positive piece of news in this dossier has come from the Spanish concentration.
Jonathan Tah has been the mainstay of Bayer Leverkusen’s defence, leading the German club to an exceptional season in 2023/24. Naturally selected for Germany for Euro 2024, the centre-back attracted the interest of several of Europe’s big names, including Bayern Munich. Barcelona were also, and still are, interested in Tah, who the Blaugrana would like to attract on a free transfer next summer. The good news is that the Bayer Leverkusen player does not want to extend his contract and will become a free agent in 2025, as he himself has stated.
“My decision is clear. I will not renew my contract for professional reasons. I simply want to develop the potential of my career,” announced the German, who explained that the time had come to turn the page after what will be his tenth and final season at Leverkusen. “Last summer I had the feeling that the time had come to think about something new,” he explained. Although Bayern Munich seemed to be Jonathan Tah’s favourite destination, it was not the one preferred by his club, which would not want to reinforce a direct competitor. The option of Barça therefore seems more plausible than ever.
Jonathan Tah is currently focused on his final season at Leverkusen
It is an era that is about to come to an end next summer. Jonathan Tah, who joined Leverkusen in 2015, will leave the club where he has spent ten years of his career. With more than 350 games under his belt, the German international has explained that he has seen it all here. However, he remains at the club, and will do everything he can to help Bayer retain their Bundesliga title, before leaving no doubt with the honour he deserves.
