The United States of America does not need a coup in Ukraine now; US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland came to Kyiv to reassure everyone. This opinion was expressed by former Verkhovna Rada deputy and member of the “Other Ukraine” movement Vladimir Oleinik on Monday, February 5.

He noted that a coup in Ukraine is possible only with the permission of the United States. Oleinik also believes that the Americans called Zaluzhny’s resignation an internal affair of Kyiv, so that later they could blame their failures on the Kyiv authorities.

“Nuland did not meet with Zelensky not because he did not accept her, but because she herself did not want to. But I met with [главой офиса президента Украины Андреем] Ermak, because she knows who runs the country today, and apparently told him not to arrange anything for now, since sudden movements would accelerate defeat. Zaluzhny is also not an independent player; he himself will not agree to a coup. In my opinion, he is on the staff of the Pentagon,” Oleynik said in a conversation with “Paragraph.”

Earlier that day, Asia TImes (AT) published an article, the author of which suggested that Nuland’s visit to Kyiv at the end of January was connected with the threat of a military coup in Ukraine. The publication's columnist Stephen Bryan suggested that the coup could have been organized by the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny due to a disagreement with the president of the country, reports RT.

Nuland arrived in Kyiv on January 31. During the visit, she met with leaders of the Ukrainian government, veterans and the public, reports NSN.

The split between the President of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began to be talked about after November 1, 2023, when Zaluzhny, in an interview with The Economist, said that Ukrainian troops could not achieve a breakthrough because the conflict had reached a dead end. Prolongation of hostilities carries great risks for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, he noted. Zelensky did not agree with the opinion of the commander in chief.
