Inverse has recently published an article that seems to relaunch the idea of a multiplatform future For Xboxreporting some alleged testimonies from Microsoft employees who witnessed the famous event meeting held at the headquarters last week, anticipating the public event tomorrow evening where the mystery is expected to be revealed.
The testimonies are anonymous because, apparently, the employees in question would not be authorized to speak to the press, but Inverse would have received these communications confidentially, however the matter should be taken as a rumor in the absence of any confirmation.
It is reportedly confirmed that Phil Spencer has assured that Xbox will still produce hardware in the future, as was previously reported, however a statement from Sarah Bond, now president of the division, leaves room for various interpretations.
Palworld as an example of the multiplatform approach?
“Every screen is an Xbox“, Bond apparently said during the internal meeting, according to various sources consulted by Inverse. Bond would then have spoken of Xbox's intention to exist on various different devices, with the ambition of becoming the number one cross-platform gaming company in the world.
To illustrate the concept, Microsoft would show images of Palworld on tablets, TVs, monitors and portable deviceswhich also brought out some ideas among those present on the possibility of Xbox thinking about possible official portable platforms, something that recurs in recent rumors.
The question could have different interpretations: apart from the curious choice of showing Palworld instead of a first party game, which could simply underline the usual concept of the ubiquity of Xbox Game Passan idea that has existed for years now, and obviously no mention is made of other consoles, such as PS5 and Nintendo Switch, limiting everything to PC, Xbox and mobile devices, i.e. the same platforms currently supported by Xbox.
However, considering the insistent rumors about the arrival of Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves on other consoles, it is difficult not to include Sarah Bond's phrase in the idea of a fully-fledged multiplatform Xbox, waiting to know the truth tomorrow evening , at 9.00 pm, on the official Xbox podcast.
During the aforementioned meeting, Phil Spencer would also have talked about the numerous layoffs that occurred in the Microsoft Gaming division, claiming that it was a “difficult decision to stop things that were not working”, also adding that it is reasonable to expect the arrival of a new Call of Duty this fall.
