The crisis of results of theAlfa Romeo it also continued on the occasion of the Hungarian Grand Prix, fourth consecutive appointment not to foresee both drivers of the Swiss team in the points zone in the final classification. After the disappointments collected in Austria and France, even the Hungaroring did not give smiles to both Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottaswith the latter having to raise the white flag due to a technical failure three laps from the finish.
Regardless of his retirement, the Finn was still unable to impose a certain pace during the race, disadvantaged, like others, by the performance of the hard compound of the tires: “It was difficult, a bit like in France, because the hard have not grown as fast as I hoped – number 77 explained – we tried, we thought it would be the best opportunity for us, but in the end it didn’t. We committed to a one stop strategy, and it was hard to back down. Furthermore, with a few laps to go I had to stop the car due to a technical problem, a real shame. I lost power, we don’t know the details yet: obviously it’s bad luck and we will investigate with the team, but I think the points seem rather unlikely. Now I can’t wait to enjoy the summer break, to recharge and get back full of energy for the second part of the season ”.
A strategy with only one pit stop initially planned for Guanyu Zhoualso excluded from a potential arrival in the top ten precisely due to a decision that proved to be adverse for the purposes of the ranking, as demonstrated by 13th place: “Conditions weren’t a problem per se – has explained – they were a bit mixed, especially a bit more slippery in the final laps, but overall positive. I think our plan did not pay off, we struggled on the first lap and in the first laps losing ground to other cars, and since the single stop did not work, we had to do one more which led me to bottom of the line-up. IS it was quite frustrating, because it compromised my chances. Apart from that, I think we had a good pace and that we deserved something more, as in terms of performance we seemed to be back where we started at Silverstone. I’ve learned a lot this season, which has been tough and fun at the same time, and there’s still a lot of room for improvement. It’s good to take a little break and then hope to come back even stronger to get better results ”.
