The annual consumer inflation rate (CPI) in the euro zone slowed to 1.8% in September, compared to 2.2% in August, according to preliminary data released this Tuesday, October 1, by European Union statistics agency, Eurostat. In this way, the CPI fell below the European Central Bank’s (ECB) 2% inflation target for the first time since June 2021.
The core CPI, which disregards energy and food prices, increased by 2.7% in September compared to the same month last year, slightly lower than the annual increase of 2.8% in August.
The previews of the CPI and its core in September were in line with the forecasts of analysts consulted by FactSet.
