The new music competition has managed to produce several hits in recent years. The seven finalists will be revealed live on Wednesday.

Who enters this year Wrapper into flame-patterned boots and represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö in May?

Speculations will get started in earnest when the seven finalists of Yle's New Music competition are announced today.

Based on the previously mentioned hints, well-known artists from several different genres will be participating this year as well.

“There is a ysäri-dancer by an artist making his debut, a power song by a singer with a wonderful voice, perhaps the finest song of an indie favorite's career, a surprising duet by two famous artists with a hard beat, an explosive rock anthem from a band touring the world, a really intense song from one of the most listened-to artists of the moment, and a well-known the club-banger that the artist raises”, described the chairman of the UMK jury Tapio Hakanen in the October bulletin.

The artists will be revealed today at 8pm on live broadcast Ylen channels. The contest songs will be published starting tomorrow on weekdays until midnight.

The winner of UMK and Finland's next Eurovision representative will be crowned in the final at the Tampere arena on February 10.

Last year's The wrapper drug finally took Finland to second place in the fives. A similar phenomenon has not been seen at UMK before, but the competition's popularity has been on the rise for a long time.

Finland's Spotify's most streamed song of the year has come from UMK three times in a row: in 2021 it was UMK winner Blind Channel's Dark Side and came third the following year Bessin Ram bam bam. Last year, Käärijän was naturally at the top Cha Cha Chawhich also became Spotify's most streamed Finnish song of all time.

Also for example Erika Vikman and Kuumaa have received a boost in their careers from the competition.

In its current form, UMK has attracted the attention of viusu fans abroad as well, and it has been hailed on social media as one of the most high-level viusu qualifiers of the moment.

Middle East the events have recently also been reflected in Eurovision and UMK. After the extremist organization Hamas attacked Israel in October, Israel launched an attack on the Gaza Strip, where according to the Health Ministry of the Hamas-controlled area, more than 23,000 people have already died.

Among other things, Yle has been demanded to withdraw from Eurovision if Israel is allowed to participate in the competition. The European Broadcasting Union EBU has so far confirmed that Israel will participate in future visas.

“Eurovision is the EBU's competition, and they make policies that we listen to. They have certainly also received messages about the boycott. We have talked with the Nordic countries, and everyone has a very similar situation in all countries. Messages have come to all the companies,” said Yle, director of creative content and media manager Ville Vilén for STT in December.

A boycott is called for because of Israel's participation as well in the petition, signed by a group of Finnish music professionals. The signatories also demand Yle to put pressure on the EBU to exclude Israel from the visas.

A musician belonging to the work group Lukas Korpelainen told For Helsingin Sanomat last week that the petition is to be handed over to Yle after mid-January.

Studied the history of Eurovision Dean Vuletic estimated last month for STT that there will be no statements against Israel from public broadcasting companies.

“The countries have diplomatic relations with Israel, and the fact that one actor would now take a stand against Israel would be against all the countries' foreign relations,” Vuletic said.

This year's Eurovision will be held in Malmö, Sweden, from 7 to 11. May.
