The deposit of the stamps for the European elections which will be held on 8 and 9 June has been completed. The number of permits deposited was 42, slightly down from 49 in the previous European elections. There were few surprises compared to the day before, but several changes compared to the latest electoral rounds.
Throughout the filing, the question of the name of the secretary Elly Schlein to be included in the PD's electoral badge took center stage: an issue that opened a notable debate within the party with quite strong positions taken and several stomach aches. In the end, only the miniature of the logo of the European Socialist Party, of which the Dems are part, will appear next to the PD logo.
There is also news for the Five Star Movement, which adds the word #peace to its beautiful logo: this is the first case of a hashtag in a symbol in a national election.
In the first national round after the death of its founder, Forza Italia reconfirms its sign with the writing “Berlusconi president”, and inserts a flea with the symbol of Noi Moderati, with which the party has an agreement.
Few graphic changes for Fratelli d'Italia (which removes the concentric circle between Giorgia Meloni's name and that of the party), none for the League, which does not insert references to the fact that the lists will host UDC candidates. The centrists, however, still present their own symbol, but only for precautionary purposes, and it is one of the two crossed shields present on the noticeboards of the Interior Ministry together with a Christian Democracy (in the past this symbol was deposited by several people even on the same occasion). No news for the Greens and Left Alliance either.
In line with the announcements on the eve of the United States of Europe sign, which hosts six symbols (Italia Viva, +Europa, PSI, Libdem and Italian Radicals): the name United States of Europe, however, is also presented by another list linked to the radical world which registered the symbol already in 2019 and the same concept is expressed in the no and of “United States adhering to the Euro”.
Even the Action list, as announced, has 8 symbols inside it: a crowding not comparable to that of the 20 symbols inside the symbol of Cateno De Luca's Freedom list, a record according to the expert in political and electoral symbols Gabriele Maestri.
Then there are Sovereign and Popular Democracy by Marco Rizzo and Francesco Toscano and Pace Terra Dignità, promoted by Michele Santoro: both are trying their hand at the difficult task of collecting signatures.
There is also no shortage of autonomists: two Aosta Valley lists and the South Tyrolean SVP, as well as certainties: the third position on the board of the Holy Roman Empire Christian of Mirella Cece and the last of Italia dei Diritti, with Antonello De Pierro who traditionally delivers in Cesarini area. And historical symbols that have not always found space on the ballots in recent years reappear, such as Forza Nuova and Italia Reale. There is no shortage of duplicates in addition to those already mentioned: two Italexit (one within the Libertà list, one in tandem with animal rights activists), two Pirates, and three Insieme Liberi (one within the Libertà label of Cateno De Luca)
It is worth underlining that not all the marks will end up on the ballot: those who enjoy the exemption from collecting signatures will go, while those who try their hand at collecting subscriptions will only have achieved the objective, and not necessarily in all five constituencies.
However, it is not certain that those who deposit the symbol do so to go on the ballot: being on the noticeboards of the Interior Ministry can also be a way to testify to the existence of a political force or to prevent that same symbol from being used by others. Furthermore, the order in which the marks are deposited does not in any way affect the order in which they will appear on the card.
