The European Union has updated the black list of people who were responsible for or contributed to the attack on the Russia against Ukraine, a dynamic that led to war. Among the 160 names added (and published onOfficial Journal of the European Union, L 080i.e. the Official Journal of the European Union) are also there Dmitry And Nikita Mazepinformer Haas investor and pilot, respectively.
The two Mazepins are among the 14 prominent oligarchs and entrepreneurs involved in important economic sectors: Dmitry, owner of the potash giant Uralkaliis in very close contact with Vladimir Putin, as the EU Commission underlines: “Mazepin is involved in the economic sectors and provides a replacement source of income to the Russian government, which is responsible for annexing Crimea and destabilizing Ukraine. On February 24, Mazepin met with Putin along with 36 other businessmen to discuss the impact of the sanctions: his invitation to this meeting demonstrates how closely he is with Putinsupporting or implementing actions or policies that threaten or undermine the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of Ukraine“.
Overall, EU restrictive measures currently apply to 862 individuals and 53 entities. The sanctions, which include travel bans and asset freezes, add to the Union’s already implemented measures relating to the war in Ukraine, which include the exit of seven Russian banks from the system Swift and a ban on foreign currency transactions by the country’s central bank.
