Wednesday September 16 was synonymous with a baptism of fire for Ursula von der Leyen. The President of the European Commission faced MEPs during her speech to the European Parliament in Brussels (Belgium). She focused part of her speech on health policies to be adopted and took the opportunity to pay tribute to the work of caregivers during this health crisis. Regarding the climate, she announces that she wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030.
The debates promise to be eventful on the Brussels side. MEPs will have to find a way to finance these measures. “This debate on new financial resources, such as the tax on digital giants, is absolutely vital for the future of the climate transition”, recalls journalist Pascal Verdeau in duplex from Brussels.
