European elections, Conte presents the M5S symbol at the Interior Ministry
Giuseppe Conte presents the symbol of the Five Star Movement for the 2024 European elections. The writing #peace is added to the traditional five-star symbol, complete with a hashtag. For electoral marking expert Gabriele Maestri, this is the first presence of a hashtag in a symbol presented in national elections.
“They attacked us, they smeared us, they tried to divide us and throw us out of Parliament for our commitment to peace – declared Conte presenting the symbol – but we are always here to put all our strength towards a way out starting from the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to laboriously set up peace negotiations”.
The M5S leader continues: “In the symbol we have included the much abused word, abused by everyone, but which retains a strong meaning and which should motivate all consciences, the word is peace”.
Then the dig at Schlein: “Is Schlein deceiving the Italians by running for office? Don't build personalistic controversies: Conte against Schlein or Conte against Meloni. This applies to all political forces that nominate people who will not be able to go to the European Parliament. I agree with what Prodi said: it is a wound for democracy.”
“We are deceiving the citizens who perhaps give you a few more votes then and there, but then they lose trust and become disaffected with politics and no longer go to vote”.
