We may repeat ourselves a lot, but it is reality. China has woken up from its slumber. The country has become the largest industrial power in the world. For decades they have been the factory for the rest of the planet, but in the last 5 years it has emerged as the global leader in terms of electrical technology. Its brands and cars are gradually opening up abroad and The Chinese know perfectly well that if they want to break Europe’s psychological barriers they must assault every space. Speed and performance are no longer exclusive to European brands. Xiaomi has just demonstrated it with its first and only electric car.
You have to put a little context into the situation to realize the magnitude of the record that the SU7 has just achieved at the Nürburgring. Xiaomi is one of the largest technology companies in the world. It sells devices such as phones, tablets and a thousand different gadgets that try to make our lives easier. Its commercial catalog is enormous and for months it has also includes one of the electric cars that has caused the most stir in the last year, the SU7. Considered as a rival to the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model Y, it can easily be said that it is not only at their height, but surpasses them in figures such as autonomy, acceleration, power or top speed.
Porsche and Tesla have a new and serious adversary from the east
That is to say, it is as if Porsche manufactured the best mobile phone in the world overnight. It doesn’t occur to anyone, but that’s what Xiaomi has done in the field of electric mobility. A few months ago, the Chinese presented to the world the most extreme, radical and impressive version of their sedan, the SU7 Ultra. It has more power than a Bugatti Chiron, 1,548 horsepower, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and a top speed that easily exceeds 350 kilometers per hour. Well, all those figures have allowed him to destroy the lap record on the northern track of the Nürburgring. Until now a private hunting preserve for European brands.
The Nordschleife is one of the most dangerous and fastest stages in the world. Nicknamed the Green Hell, this circuit of more than 20 kilometers long has been positioned as the ideal setting to test the dynamic capabilities of every new car. Fans come en masse as if it were a pilgrimage, while brands come eager to surpass their rivals. In recent years Tesla and Porsche have fought face to face to lower the time. Today, both have been surpassed by a manufacturer that a few months ago didn’t even have a car on sale, although there is a little trick.
Xiaomi is going to sell the SU7 Ultra to the public so that it can be recognized as the fastest production electric car to lap the Nürburgring. This is a model specially prepared for speed. Until now, the Taycan Turbo GT boasted the lap record with a time of 7:07.550 minutes. Since last October 28, for the first time in the category, an electric car has been able to go below the 7-minute mark. Xiaomi assures and certifies that the SU7 Ultra has been able to make a complete lap in 6:46,874 minutes. 20 seconds less than the Taycan. A truly amazing time with which the Chinese, once again, show that they can break any barrier that is put in their way.
