Poland and the Baltic countries took the initiative to ban the broadcasting of the Russian TV channels Rossiya 1, NTV Mir and REN TV. This was reported EUobserver with reference to a document with proposals for sanctions circulated in Brussels.
Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ireland, which supported them, formalized the initiative to ban TV channels and other anti-Russian restrictions into a common document.
The EU countries also prescribed restriction of access to the websites of Russian news resources.
The document also spells out a ban on importing cash banknotes from Europe and the United States into the Russian Federation, as well as selling real estate to Russians and financing lobbying firms or non-governmental organizations.
Source “RIA News” in the EU said that the eighth package of sanctions could be adopted on 28 September. It may include the abolition of the right of veto when making decisions regarding Russia.
Earlier, on September 20, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, threatened Russia with new sanctions in the event of referendums in the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. He stated that all those involved in the referendums would be held accountable, and additional restrictive measures would be considered against Russia.
Then the official representative of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, advised Borrell to remember the crimes of Kyiv committed since 2014. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation drew attention to the fact that “Borrel did not say anything about this and the fate of the killed civilians and children never interested him.”
Western countries began to tighten sanctions against Russia in response to Russia’s conduct of a special operation to protect the Donbass, which Vladimir Putin announced on February 24.
