Investigations of cases of falsification of European-style antiquarian documents are awaiting in the European Union after reports of the appearance on the darknet of sites for the sale of European electronic certificates of vaccination against COVID-19. The representative office of the European Union (EU) in Russia announced on November 2 that they expect certain measures from the authorities to suppress this.
“The European Union will continue to monitor this issue closely and appropriate measures will be taken if necessary. If there are suspicions of fraud, the EU expects the countries in which it occurs, including Russia, to take steps to investigate and respond to these suspicions, ”said RBK in the diplomatic mission.
The distribution of fake documents in the EU – Russian QR codes or digital COVID certificates of the European Union – is illegal and punishable. Kaspersky Lab reported about fraudulent sales of European electronic certificates of vaccination against coronavirus on the darknet.
Specialists of an international cybersecurity company told on November 1 about the opportunity to buy a fake electronic document for $ 300, choosing the country of vaccination and one of the drugs approved in the European Union: AstraZeneca, Pfizer / BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson or Moderna.
On October 29, it became known that the G20 countries share the opinion on the importance of mutual recognition of vaccination certificates. This would significantly speed up economic recovery and improve the quality of life of citizens. They plan to seriously study this issue, but so far there is no decision on this matter.
The system of digital certificates on COVID status was launched in the countries of the European Union on July 1: they can be used to certify the fact of receiving a vaccination, a negative test for coronavirus infection, or the fact that the owner has recently had it. The certificate allows you to travel between countries that recognize its validity without additional checks.
On May 3, the European Commission, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, recommended that EU countries allow foreign tourists who have been vaccinated against coronavirus infection with drugs certified in the territory of the union to enter.
