Postpone the entry into force of the European Union limits on car emissions which will fall to 95 gCO2/kg from next year: this is the request made by the dealers of Stellantis, who addressed the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen directly. The proposal matches ACEA’s position, but contrasts with that of Carlos Tavares, who Stellantis he is the CEO.
The dealers rise up
“As distributors, we are in daily contact with end customers, who they often reject BEVs due to concerns about price, battery life and accessibility – explanations from Stellantis dealers reported by Ansa – This puts us in one contrary position to that of the manufacturer we representwho remains optimistic about compliance with these strict EU regulations. However, from our point of view, it is clear that the industry is not yet ready to reach the necessary volume of electric vehicle sales.”
Postponement of EU emissions
Dealers believe this growing divergence between regulatory objectives, market readiness and manufacturer expectations represents a strong cause for concern. “It was no surprise when the majority of European producers, through Acea, asked for a postponement of these objectives, a proposal that we fully support”the dealers added.
Stellantis against
As reiterated several times, Stellantis is not of the same opinion. “Together with our dealers and the existing BEV offering of 40 models, we have already achieved the third position on the EU BEV market, very close to Tesla, and we are very proud to contribute as a team to the fight against global warming – the company justified itself – Our dealers will benefit from a further 6 BEVs and 3 MHEVs in Europe in 2025, despite already having some unrivaled offerings in showrooms such as the very affordable Citroën ë-C3 and ë-C3 Aircross, and the benchmark-setting Peugeot E-3008 700 km of autonomy, to name a few. We will work with our dealers to define the perfect sales mix within the limits of compliance with CO2 emissions regulations, leveraging our multi-energy platform as a unique asset in the European market”.
