Not just Chinese electric cars. The European Commission will soon also be targeting biodiesel from the Asian country: the official entry into force of anti-dumping duties ranging between 12.8% and 36.4% on biodiesel is expected for August 16. biodiesel imported from China. Not a simple indiscretion, but a decision now taken and confirmed by a spokesperson of the European executive.
Tariffs against Chinese biodiesel
According to Ansa, the decision was taken at the end of an anti-dumping investigation in response to the complaint by EU biodiesel producers launched by Brussels at the end of last year: the accusation was that imports from Beijing were arriving in the EU with artificially low prices. In four weeks, therefore, these duties will officially come into force: we are talking about tariffs of 12.8% on the back of the EcoCeres group, 36.4% for the Jiaao group and 25.4% for the Zhuoyue group. Not only that: other producers who cooperated with the investigation will be subject to a duty of 23.7%, while all other companies that did not cooperate will be subject to a duty of 36.4%.
The decision of the EU Commission
A move with which the European Commission hopes to defend the biodiesel market which, it is estimated, in the Old Continent is worth approximately 31 billion euros per year. The Chinese threat has become more pressing year after year: companies from the Asian country, according to data released by EBB, the European board dealing with the dossier, have exported 1.8 million tons of biodiesel to the EU, equivalent to approximately 90% of all Chinese exports of biodiesel. Exports that, according to the Ebb, are having a devastating effect on European production, contributing to the difficulties of the products.
