São Paulo, 13 – The Center-South region of Brazil sold 2.46 billion liters of ethanol in September, 15.02% less than in the same period in 2020, informed the Sugarcane Industry Union (Unica ). In the domestic market, sales of hydrous ethanol reached 1.31 billion liters in the fortnight, a reduction of 25.32% over the volume calculated in the same period of the last harvest (1.75 billion liters). The volume of anhydrous ethanol sold rose 19.81% to 954.2 million liters.
For the Technical Director of Unica, Antonio de Padua Rodrigues, “the adjustment through prices should balance the market, adapting demand to the conditions of more limited supply of hydrous ethanol in this harvest.
On the other hand, producers are prioritizing the production of anhydrous ethanol, ensuring the full supply of the mandatory demand associated with the mixture of biofuel in gasoline”.
In a statement, he also highlighted that the drop in demand for ethanol has to do with the beginning of the harvest in the North/Northeast region, which reduces transfers from the Center-South.
Between the beginning of the 2021/2022 harvest and October 1st, the volume of ethanol sold by the Center-South is stable compared to the previous season, at 14.75 billion liters.
Of this total, 929.06 million liters were destined for the foreign market (35.66% indentation) and 13.82 billion, for the domestic market (3.87% more than in the previous year). The volume of anhydrous ethanol sold domestically totals 5.15 billion liters (an increase of 25.07%) and hydrated ethanol, 8.68 billion liters (a decrease of 5.62%).
According to Rodrigues, the ethanol market is balanced despite the drop in the sugarcane harvest and the resumption of fuel use. “The anticipation of the observed scenario ensured the correct functioning of the market, with a reduction in demand for hydrated and stimuli for the production of anhydrous ethanol,” he said.
