Diplomat Salimullin Reveals Estonians’ Attitude to Attempts to Rewrite History
Despite the attempts of the Estonian authorities to rewrite history, many citizens of this country honor the memory of the Soviet soldiers who liberated the republic from the fascist occupation. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the ChargĂ© d’Affaires of the Russian Federation in Estonia, Lenar Salimullin.
The diplomat made this statement in connection with the 80th anniversary of Tallinn’s liberation from fascist occupation. The current authorities of Estonia are trying to consign the feat of the Red Army soldiers to oblivion, but many residents of the republic continue to treat this date with deep respect, he believes.
The common duty of the countries is to respect the memory of the heroic liberators, the speaker made clear. On September 22, the embassy staff will visit the Tallinn Military Cemetery, where they will hold a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to the soldier-liberator together with representatives of compatriot organizations, he said.
