D.He was jailed for decades in the United States for espionage for Israel, Jonathan Pollard, who is allowed to leave the United States. After Pollard’s release from prison in 2015, a five-year ban on leaving the country expired on Friday, the US Department of Justice said. A commission responsible for probation requirements came to the conclusion that the 66-year-old was not at great risk of future violations of the law. Therefore, the probation was not extended.
The former analyst with the US Navy secret service was arrested in 1985 for leaking thousands of secret documents to the Israeli secret services. The case caused considerable resentment among the allied states and embarrassed the Israeli government.
Israel encouraged Pollard to leave
Born into a Jewish family in Texas, Pollard was sentenced to life in prison. In 2015 he was released from prison under strict conditions after 30 years in prison. Pollard, who has also been an Israeli citizen since 1995, has, among other things, been banned from leaving the country for five years.
According to earlier statements by his family, he wants to emigrate to Israel, where he is celebrated by many as a hero. The Israeli government had campaigned for Pollard to leave the country.
