Erik ten Hag calls Rashford indispensable: “He is needed to become the best club in the world again”

In the press conference prior to Wednesday night’s game against Nottingham Forest in the semi-final of the League Cup, Ten Hag says: ,,Rashford knows he is important to us. If we want to achieve our goals, we need him. We want to be the best team. First from England, then from Europe, then from the world.”

Rashford has been in top form the last few weeks. The England international scored nine goals in nine games in the period after the World Cup. His good performances have earned the attacker the interest of Paris Saint-Germain. Rashford is ‘only’ fixed until mid-2024, so Ten Hag hopes that the contract will be broken up as soon as possible.

Talks are being held between Rashford and Manchester United, but Ten Hag cannot reveal much about the content. “These are confidential talks between clubs and players. I think he understands that Man. United is his club. That is paramount.”

The fact that Rashford is in the interest of Paris Saint-Germain thanks to his good performances leaves Ten Hag cold. He sees the positive in it. “I hope that all our players will be in the interest of other clubs. That would mean that we are performing well, so that is what we are going for.”

According to Ten Hag, it is best for Rashford to continue playing at Manchester United. “In this environment, in this team, I think he plays his best football,” says the Dutch coach. “He is getting better, he is working on the right things. He always gives 100 percent and with his qualities it is he is important for this team, the team can help him get into the right position and score goals, which he is good at.”
