Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the consequences of the crisis in Ukraine were misjudged by the West. He said this during his speech in Ankara on Monday, October 10.
According to the Turkish president, Western “leaders only thought about the current moment.”
“Unfortunately, they did not assess the events between Russia and Ukraine from the point of view of common sense. In the coming period, radical political changes will inevitably take place in the world,” Erdogan said.
The Turkish leader also noted that, in his opinion, the modern era is becoming a time of conflict, rather than prosperity, peace and justice.
He added that now in the world the rich are getting even richer, and the gap between different groups of the population is only increasing.
“Billions of people from Africa to Asia have difficulty accessing even basic food. We are seeing a worsening of this grim picture.”
Erdogan also recalled that now the countries of Europe are faced with the question of how they can survive this winter due to the energy crisis.
“Inflation rates, which have reached the highest level in the last 50-60 years, put everyone in a difficult position, including residents of Western countries. There is growing concern about food security. At the last summit in Prague, we listened to the leaders ask how we will get through this winter. We don’t have such a problem,” the Turkish leader concluded.
The day before, on October 9, Erdogan, at a meeting with members of the Turkish Youth Foundation (TÜGVA) in Istanbul, said that European countries would face difficulties this winter due to the energy crisis caused by restrictions on gas supplies from Russia.
On October 6, the European Union agreed on the eighth package of sanctions against Russia. In particular, it includes a legislative framework that allows a price ceiling to be set for maritime shipments of Russian oil to third countries. The price limit will be introduced on December 5 for oil and on February 5, 2023 for petroleum products.
Earlier, on September 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that in the event of restrictions on energy prices from the Russian Federation, the West would face a complete halt in supplies from the country.
Western countries decided to reduce their dependence on Russian energy resources against the backdrop of a special operation of the Russian Federation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24. However, all this has already turned into economic problems in Europe, causing a sharp rise in prices for fuel, food and utilities.
