Umberto Scandola and Guido D’Amore did not finish the Rally Liepaja, ERC 2021 appointment, in the best way. During the PS8 of the 12 scheduled they were the protagonists of an accident from which the Ligurian navigator did not come out unscathed.
During the PS8 the Hyundai i20 New Generation R5 of Scandola and D’Amore faced a right-hand bend ending wide, sliding outwards and going off the road and then hitting the wall of the moat. The i20, at that point, began to flip. She did it several times, and then stopped leaning against a tree with her bottom.
At first it seemed that the crew had come out unscathed from the spectacular accident – moreover protected very well by the Korean car – but then after some analyzes made on his return to Italy, the navigator Guido D’Amore found some problems that will force him to stay stopped for a few weeks.
The tests carried out revealed the fracture of one rib, plus two other cracked ones. These will force D’Amore to remain stationary for some time, the time necessary to recover physically and be able to return to sail Scandola in the ERC and in the other events in which the Hyundai Rally Italia Team will take part in 2021.
“I wanted to thank all the friends and colleagues who have written to me in these days”, said D’Amore through a video posted on the official social pages of his team. “My situation after the accident on Sunday, after having had myself checked in Italy, as per the advice of doctors in Latvia, they found 2 cracked ribs and one broken”.
“Consequently I will have to rest a little, a little on the bench as they say, to be able to recover. I will have to be at complete rest, relax, sit down to try to recover, avoid sudden movements. the helmet on his head “, concluded the navigator native of Imperia.
