The second season of the series The Last of Us from HBO is still surrounded by mystery. Although thanks to the Naughty Dog game we know the general events that this story will present to us, we do not know how this adaptation will be structured, for example. Well, at least one question has already been answered, since the number of episodes that the second season will have have been revealed.
Through an interview with Deadline, Craig Mazin, co-creator of the HBO series, mentioned that the second season of The Last of Us It will only be made up of seven chapters. A substantial reduction from the 10 we saw in the first part. Does this mean that all the events of The Last of Us Part II will be reduced to just over seven hours of television? No.
Currently, there is not only talk that the events of The Last of Us Part II They could span two seasons in total, but it has been considered that the HBO adaptation will have a total duration of four seasons, or more. This is what Mazin commented on the matter:
“We don’t think we’ll be able to tell the story even in two seasons.” [2 y 3] because we’re taking our time, and going down interesting paths that we also did a little bit of in season 1. We think it’s almost certain that, as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television, season 3 will be significantly bigger. And in fact, the story may require a season 4.
One thing is absolutely certain: I don’t see how we could tell the story that remains after season 2 is completed in one more season.
The Last of Us Part II It’s a huge game. Not only does it last twice as long as the first installment, around 25 hours, but it offers us two protagonists, a huge repertoire of secondary characters, multiple locations, and even various jumps in time. With this, Mazin and Neil Druckmann are most likely working to expand certain narrative points and add original storiessomething they did in the first season.
In this way, the possibility is not ruled out that the second season will be focused on Ellie’s trip through Seattle, followed by a third season focused on Abby, and culminating with a fourth season with the events of these two protagonists in Santa Barbara. The only thing that is clear at the moment is that we will have a lot The Last of Us on HBO for a while.
Unfortunately, At the moment it is unknown when the second season will arrive on HBO and Max, but this information will probably be available throughout the year. Author’s Note:
While this may sound negative to some, and surely reinforces the idea that Neil Druckmann can only work on The Last of Us, the second game is such a beast, that it’s no surprise that the series creators are doing everything possible to honor Naughty Dog’s work, even if that means creating multiple seasons.
