Enzo Ferrari it was not only linked to the creations that carried the Cavallino on the nose or on the sides. The Drake in fact owned several cars for personal use that did not belong to the car manufacturer that bore his surname and among these, one of the last was a ‘Alfa Romeo 164. There are several photos depicting the Commendatore with the sedan of the Biscione, an example finished in Rosso Corsa which in a certain sense once again recalled the link between the Arese and Maranello brands.
This model was produced for 10 years, from 1987 to 1997 right in the Arese plant, boasting an elegant design with skilfully drawn lines to improve aerodynamics. The result achieved was thanks to Enrico Fumia, a skilled Pininfarina designer who was the father of the stylistic project. Enzo Ferrari’s Alfa Romeo 164 was a TS version, equipped with the 148 HP 2.0 Twin Spark four-cylinder engine. It was an engine equipped with dual ignition technology, with a pair of spark plugs per cylinder and not with just one as in other similar units. In this way it was possible to improve the combustion ratio of the air / petrol mixture. The four-cylinder was combined with a 5-speed mechanical gearbox plus reverse and front-wheel drive, one of the reasons for this never fully achieved success.
Despite being a sober sedan, the Twin Spark made it possible to guarantee Alfa Romeo 164 highly respectable performance for this type of car, with a top speed of 210 km / h and the possibility of sprinting from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.2 seconds. The sedan of the Biscione was not the only car from another brand in Enzo Ferrari’s garage. In fact, over the years the Drake had often been immortalized on board a Peugeot 404, or a 504, without forgetting the Mini, the Fiat Ritmo or the Launch Thema 8.32 which was equipped with the Ferrari V8, the same used on Mondial and 308, albeit with some tricks to make it less aggressive.
