The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) reported this Friday that the Phase I of atmospheric environmental contingency due to ozone in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM) remains in force, with the objective of safeguarding the health of inhabitants and preventing exposure to elevated levels of ozone.
According to him Mexico City Air Quality Monitoring Systema high pressure system is expected to persist today, which will generate a dry environment with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies for most of the day.
This situation, combined with intense solar radiation, will raise the average maximum temperature to around 30 degrees Celsius.
During the morning and early afternoon, the wind is expected to be weak and variable in direction, which could cause pollutants to stagnate in the atmosphere.
However, towards the afternoon, dispersion conditions are expected to gradually improve due to the predominance of light to moderate wind coming from the south-southeast.
Despite this expected improvement in pollutant dispersion, forecasts indicate that air quality will remain in the range of Poor to Very Poor quality, meaning that the population must take additional precautions to protect their health.
CAMe recommends that the population stay informed about air quality and avoid outdoor activities, such as exercise, between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., when pollution levels are usually highest.
Additionally, citizens are urged to take measures to reduce their contribution to air pollution, such as using public or shared transportation instead of private vehicles.
