Parliament will take measures to save energy starting next week. It is estimated that approximately 70,000 euros can be saved with the measures, it is said in the parliament’s press release.

For example, the Parliament plans to lower the room temperatures by a degree and keep the lights on for a shorter time in some buildings. The temperature in the parking areas is also planned to be lowered.

The use hours of the Parliament’s saunas will be shortened or the facilities will be completely taken out of use. In addition, the temperature of the swimming pool is lowered.

The parliament plans to save district heating by partially or completely removing the heating of the outer stairs of the House of Parliament.

Parliament aims to save about 500 megawatt hours from district heating, which, according to the release, is around 50,000 euros at the estimated price for the winter season.

“The cost savings that can be achieved with the presented measures is a rough estimate and the realization depends on the development of energy prices,” the release notes.

Consumption amounts are also estimates. The savings measures were approved by the parliament’s chancellery committee on Thursday. According to the release, some of the measures will only be taken when winter comes.
