This weekend, the first test of the National High School Exam (Enem) will be applied. In addition to the general rules for all editions, in 2021 the use of a mask is mandatory, as it was last year.
Here are 7 tips for what to do the day before the exam and where to find the official exam information:
1- Dates, times and places
The Enem will be applied on November 21st and 28th. On the first day of the exam, the subjects are: Human Sciences and Their Technologies, Languages, Codes and Their Technologies, and Writing. In the second, it is the turn of Mathematics, Codes and Their Technologies, and Natural Sciences and Their Technologies.
On the first Sunday, candidates have 5 hours and 30 minutes to answer questions and write an essay. On the second Sunday, the duration is 5 hours. The gates open at 12:00 and closing is scheduled for 13:00. The start of the race must take place at 1:30 pm, after the security procedures.

To find out where the test will take place, the candidate must access the Participant’s Page on the Inep website. There, with the login and password, the participant will have access to all their information and will be able to consult their place of competition.
2- What YOU CAN take
Many students have doubts about what they can and cannot take on the test. Among the allowed or mandatory items are: official document with photo; black ink ballpoint pen made of transparent material; mask; confirmation card; a snack and water; and alcohol gel.
3- What YOU CANNOT take
It is recommended that the candidate take the least amount of objects possible. Among the objects that are not allowed are: electronic equipment (or must be stored in the storage compartment and turned off); sunglasses and headgear; non-transparent pen, pencil, mechanical pencil, erasers, rulers, correctors; books, manuals, printed matter, notes; and watch.
4- Covid-19
Just like last year, Enem 2021 has security measures against Covid- 19. The use of a face mask will be mandatory at the application sites and participants who have coronavirus or other infectious diseases should not attend the exam and may request reapplication .
Inside the room, students must keep the mask on throughout the exam. The notice stipulates that the mask must be used correctly, covering the nose and mouth. If this is not done, the participant will be eliminated.
Another rule is social distancing. The rooms will be arranged to ensure distance between participants. For the consultant of the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases Marcelo Otsuka, even with the advance of vaccination, it is important to maintain safety measures, especially in a large-scale exam such as Enem.
In addition to taking care at the test sites, Otsuka recommends that candidates also take care when traveling. For the pedagogical coordinator of ProEnem, Leandro Vieira, reading the Enem notice and knowing the rules of the exam is essential so that students are not eliminated.
5- What to do in the final stretch?
The experts’ tip is that students take advantage of the final stretch to review the rules of the exam, take simulations and solve old tests. “It’s a time to ask a lot of questions, a lot of exercise. The exercise is a form of review, of returning to the content”, says Vieira.
He also recommends that students simulate the day of the exam, including wearing a mask, to see how they will feel on the day of the exam. “We talk about simulating the test, simulating everything in the test, sitting there for 5h, 6h to take the test using the same molds that you will find on the day. This includes the use of a mask”, he says.
6- Writing
Knowing previous writing tests can help candidates, according to Vinicius Beltrão, coordinator of Pedagogical Integration at SAS Plataforma de Educação. “Writing topics are usually cyclical. Or they will bring up issues of inclusion, or questions about citizenship and ethics”, he explains.
As candidates need, in addition to having a minimum knowledge of the subject, to make an intervention proposal, the tip is to look for references that help to support the text. It can be music, movies, books, news and documents.
On the day of the test, according to the professor, the ideal is to set aside an hour to do the essay. This can be done early on, when the candidate is most rested. And even before reading the supporting texts, see, at the end of the statement, what is the theme of the essay.
On the other hand, the writing teacher on the platform Explainer Cainã Marques Vilanova recommends that, in this final stretch, students review the texts they have written throughout the year. “Do an analysis of essays that have already been written. If you studied during the year and wrote 30 essays, for example, it’s time to put them on the table and take a look, review the main mistakes, analyze what needs to be improved”, he says.
Another tip is to read essays that scored a thousand in previous editions. Producing many new texts a few days before the exam can, according to Cainã, generate nervousness. “This week is not about writing many texts anymore, I see desperate students wanting to make up for lost time. This gets in the way because they will hardly have someone to correct these essays and they won’t have feedback”.
According to Cainã, students who know the test structure well are prepared to discuss any topic. She emphasizes that the supporting texts are of great help and should be read carefully. They should not be copied in their entirety, which could reset the writing, but they may contain information that will help students’ arguments.
7- Tests
In addition, anyone who wants to take advantage of the last days before the Enem 2021 tests to review the contents, can access the site questoesenem.ebc.com.br. Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) created an online bank that gathers Enem questions from 2009 to 2020. To take the tests on the internet, students need to make a simple registration and choose the area of knowledge they want to test their knowledge.
