With new blackouts in São Paulo, Enel, the concessionaire responsible for supplying energy in the capital of São Paulo and part of the metropolitan region, will be investigated once again for consumer protection.
The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, determined that the new cases be included in the administrative process that has been underway at the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), linked to the department, since December 2023.

In November, more than 2.1 million São Paulo residents in 23 municipalities served by Enel were without power, some for more than seven days. The blackout occurred after a strong storm that hit the state of São Paulo.
In January this year, for example, dozens of customers in the capital of São Paulo had their supply interrupted after heavy rain hit the city. Around 70,000 people were affected, according to the concessionaire.
The company is being investigated for failing to comply with the Consumer Protection Code, which considers energy supply to be an essential public service that cannot be interrupted, even when provided by the private sector, as is the case with Enel.
The concessionaire has 20 days to explain what happened and the solutions adopted. From the defense, Senacon will evaluate the information and decide on sanctions.
