This concerns contracts with parties that have Russian shareholders, explains Tempelman. In 2010, for example, Eneco concluded a long-term contract with the German company Wingas that runs until 2030. This is a subsidiary of the Russian state gas company Gazprom.
Eneco will not terminate that contract immediately. According to Tempelman, the natural gas that would be released as a result will then be sold for a higher price, so that Russia would earn more money. In addition, the ‘affordable security of supply’ of Eneco’s customers would be endangered. In time, Eneco wants to get rid of natural gas completely, but until then it will focus more on the import of LNG, liquefied natural gas.
