End of summer? DWD warns of thunderstorms, hail, heavy rain – “foretaste of autumn”
Our first report from August 15th:
Offenbach / Munich – Sunshine and temperatures over 30 degrees: Summer has finally arrived in Germany! On Sunday (August 15), however, the wonderful weather should still be enjoyed, because at the beginning of the new week it should be significantly cooler again. In addition, there are warnings from the German Weather Service (DWD) of storm-like thunderstorms for Sunday evening and the night of Monday.
Severe weather warnings for Germany: thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail
From orange to red to purple: the DWD’s weather map is extremely colored in southern Germany. The experts not only warn of severe heat exposure, the DWD warns for parts of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg with storm levels two and three. In particular, thunderstorms, heavy rain with precipitation amounts of up to 40 liters per square meter per hour and heavy squalls with speeds of around 100 km / h should occur.
For the whole of the south, however, “advance information on severe weather before severe thunderstorms” applies from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. “The main risk is from locally large hail with grain sizes of around four centimeters and occasional hurricane-like gusts and 110 km / h,” reads the storm warning. In addition, heavy rain could occur.
Weather in Germany: Low “Luciano” brings cooler temperatures – “Foretaste of autumn”
An expert predicted a massive drop in temperature. According to the DWD, the weather in Germany should be significantly cooler on Monday and not warmer again until the end of the week. According to the DWD, the low “Luciano” initially brings very warm and humid air to the south of Germany, only to lead to sometimes strong thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail in the course of the day. On Monday night, the low across the North Sea shifts more and more inland. The temperatures will drop significantly from Monday. The meteorologists announced “a little foretaste of autumn” – not a particularly good prospect. Temperatures above 25 degrees are largely over. Only for the Lausitz and Eastern Saxony the DWD predicts another 26 to 27 degrees for the beginning of the week.
Thanks to the cool Atlantic air, the maximum values at the start of the week are between 17 and 24 degrees. It should only get a little warmer towards the weekend. However, things are likely to remain changeable in the north. (dpa / mbr)
